\u201cYou always dream of this growing up,\u201d Smith said. \u201cEspecially when you get drafted you just look forward to the debut and doing it was really cool and a really special moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Smith and fellow prospect Tanner McDougal are the two latest additions to the Sox major-league roster after being called up on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have been pitching really well down there (in Charlotte),\u201d pitching coach Zach Bove said before Sunday\u2019s game. \u201cFresh, powerful arms coming out of the \u2019pen. So that\u2019s going to be good.<\/p>\n \u201cHagen made some slight changes coming off the IL and stuff like that with a cutter and the delivery. All of that is in a good spot.\u201d<\/p>\n Bove discussed some of the recent arrivals on Sunday.<\/p>\n It\u2019s been more than a week since the Sox made a trade with the Seattle Mariners<\/a> to acquire veteran starter Luis Castillo. The right-hander allowed five runs on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk in four innings on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox<\/a> at Fenway Park. He is scheduled to make his second Sox outing Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds at Rate Field.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s definitely some flashes there, the first couple innings, right?\u201d Bove said of Castillo\u2019s Sox debut. \u201cThe fastball is really good. Honestly, you look at the line, it wasn\u2019t great, but a lot of weak contact, right? Obviously, the homer got him and stuff like that. But we felt good about (the outing), he just had a good side session. Obviously, we\u2019re excited to have him join the group.\u201d<\/p>\n A few more changeups might be in the mix for Castillo in future starts.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Luis is on board with increasing the changeup, obviously to lefties, but maybe an opportunity to throw to the right-handed hitters, too,\u201d Bove said. \u201cI think part of it, too, is obviously Seattle is a really good organization, they develop pitching, but they\u2019re definitely slider heavy, right? So it\u2019s just like that just naturally, they push the slider more.
