TAMPA \u2014 Amid an awful month that saw him end up on the bench<\/a>, Rangers<\/a> outfielder Adolis Garc\u00eda was recognized Tuesday for his superb defensive play.<\/p>\n

Garc\u00eda was named one of three Defensive Players of the Month by Sports Info Solutions, the leading service in tracking advanced defensive metrics. The company publishes The Fielding Bible each year and awards its own set of defensive awards.<\/p>\n

According to its metric, Defensive Runs Saved, Garc\u00eda led all right fielders with seven runs saved in May. It continued a dramatic turnaround for the 2023 Gold Glove winner, who finished 2024 with just three runs saved. It was part of why Garc\u00eda changed his training plan last winter. <\/p>\n

\u201cI feel great and am happy with the defense,\u201d Garc\u00eda said Tuesday. \u201cI wasn\u2019t happy last year. I needed to be more athletic. And I\u2019m proud that I\u2019ve done that.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to the service, which uses \u201cdata scouts\u201d to award Good Fielding Plays, Garc\u00eda already has 10 such specific defensive moments this season. He had nine for all of 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has not let his hitting woes affect his defense,\u201d manager Bruce Bochy said. \u201cI\u2019ve said this so many times: You can have a good game without getting a hit, and he\u2019s had a lot of those defensively. He has saved us at times. He\u2019s moving better now than I think, even in 2023. He\u2019s worked hard at it to get his legs back to where they need to be.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s kind of gone unnoticed what he\u2019s done in the outfield by a lot of people, but he\u2019s right there at the top as far as being one of the best right fielders in the game right now.\u201d<\/p>\n
