{"id":781614,"date":"2026-08-18T02:39:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T02:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/781614\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T02:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T02:39:15","slug":"tennessee-baseball-starter-underwent-surgery-will-miss-fall-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/781614\/","title":{"rendered":"Tennessee Baseball Starter Underwent Surgery, Will Miss Fall Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/bb2-1.webp\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-198693\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"745\" height=\"483\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/bb2-1.webp\"\/><\/a>Photo via Tennessee Athletics<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee baseball\u2019s Blaine Brown underwent left elbow surgery on Monday after sustaining the injury while pitching this summer in the Cape Cod League, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ByMikeWilson\/status\/2089478369322668323?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Volquest\u2019s Mike Wilson first reported<\/a> and a source confirmed to RTI.<\/p>\n<p>Brown\u2019s surgery was an internal brace procedure that takes pitchers anywhere from six to 10 months to recover from though Brown is not expected to miss that much time. The rising junior will miss the entirety of fall practice but Tennessee expects Brown\u2019s bat back by the start of the 2027 season.<\/p>\n<p>The two-way will not pitch during the 2027 season but it\u2019s currently unclear whether the recovery will affect Brown\u2019s ability to play in the field. It was an underwhelming season for the talented outfielder with the Rice transfer struggling at the plate for much of SEC play.<\/p>\n<p>The left-handed hitter hit .233 with seven home runs, four doubles and 18 RBIs in conference play. His best weekend of the season came when he totaled six hits in three games against Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Brown pitched sparingly during his sophomore season, posting a 3.00 ERA in just three innings pitched. While he was unable to carve out a consistent role on the mound last season, he did impress on the mound at the Cape Cod League this summer before suffering the arm injury.<\/p>\n<p>Before the injury, Brown was in line to start in one outfield spot though it was not certain what spot he would play. The Vols added Wright State centerfielder Andrew Duncan out of transfer portal earlier this offseason while a number of other Tennessee players are capable of starting in left field.
