June 3 marked the first day of all seven Padres minor league affiliates playing on the same day.\u00a0<\/p>\n

El Paso Chihuahuas (Lost 3-2 in 10 innings vs Albuquerque) (29-29 on the season)<\/p>\n

Trenton Brooks<\/a> \u2013 2-for-5, Two-Run Home Run<\/p>\n

Yonathan Perlaza<\/a> \u2013 2-for-4, Two Singles, Stolen Base<\/p>\n

Wes Benjamin<\/a> \u2013 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K (78 pitches \u2013 48 strikes)<\/p>\n

Trenton Brooks launched an early two-run home run to give the Chihuahuas a 2-0 lead at home, but that would be all the runs the Chihuahuas would score in a 3-2 extra-inning loss. Mason McCoy<\/a> went 1-for-4 with a triple in the game, scoring on Brooks\u2019 homer. Yonathan Perlaza finished 2-for-4 with two singles and a stolen base.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wes Benjamin threw 5.1 innings of one-run baseball in the game on just 78 pitches. The left-hander struck out five while walking just two, finishing two outs shy of a quality start. Benjamin\u2019s results have not always been squeaky clean this season, but he is providing a young Chihuahuas staff with plenty of length to start games. Ethan Routzahn<\/a> got four critical outs in relief of Benjamin and has not allowed an earned run in his last four appearances. Harold Chirino<\/a> allowed the tying run to score in the eighth inning on a double off the bat of Michael Toglia<\/a>. Chirino would toss a scoreless ninth, and Jason Blanchard<\/a> came on in the tenth. A groundout would get the automatic runner to third, and former Padre farmhand Owen Miller<\/a> hit a go-ahead sac fly to give the Isotopes the lead, and ultimately, the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Henry Baez<\/a> \u2013 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K (92 pitches \u2013 57 strikes)<\/p>\n

Henry Baez continued his dominant run of form, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. The right-hander allowed only four base hits, and only one of those went for extra bases. Baez\u2019s sinker-heavy approach may be hurting worm colonies, but it is certainly helping the right-hander succeed. Baez has not allowed an earned run since May 10 and has now tossed 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings. Right-hander Spencer Jones<\/a> was tagged with the loss, allowing one run in 1.1 innings. Fellow right-handers Andrew Moore<\/a> and Jose Espada<\/a> tossed a scoreless inning each, each punching out one batter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The offense did very little against Midland\u2019s pitching staff, as they were held to three hits and two walks. Marcos Castanon kept hitting, notching two singles in the loss. Castanon returned to the keystone in this game, starting at second base. Francisco Acuna had a single in four at-bats. Romeo Sanabria<\/a> and Devin Ortiz<\/a> each drew a walk in the ballgame as well, but the team had next to no momentum, finishing 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fort Wayne TinCaps (Won 4-2 vs Beloit) (26-26 on the season)<\/p>\n

Sean Barnett<\/a> \u2013 1-for-3. Three-RBI Triple<\/p>\n

Rosman Verdugo<\/a> \u2013 1-for-1, Home Run<\/p>\n

Ian Koenig<\/a> \u2013 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K (79 pitches \u2013 51 strikes)<\/p>\n

Right-hander Ian Koenig tossed his first career complete game in a victory over the Sky Carp, kind of. Koenig tossed six innings of two-run baseball with two strikeouts on just 79 pitches before the game was called due to rain. With the game having exceeded the five-inning mark and met the minimum for an official game, and with more rain in the forecast, the game was called after six innings, all but guaranteeing Koenig the complete game. Koenig has been solid for the TinCaps this season, and while he is still fully developing his arsenal, his fastball looks to be his bread and butter. If he continues to mitigate the walks, Koenig could have the ceiling of a middle to back-end starter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sean Barnett was the hitter of the game, finishing with one base hit in three at-bats, but it was a massive hit for the TinCaps\u2019 DH. Barnett laced a middle-middle offering from Sky Carp starter Emmett Olson<\/a>, hitting a liner to center that would empty the bases, giving Fort Wayne a 3-0 lead. Rosman Verdugo registered one official at-bat, as he walked twice and scored two runs. The second of those came on his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning. Jack Costello<\/a> and Braedon Karpathios<\/a> each had two hits in the game, with one of Karpathios\u2019 hits being a double.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lake Elsinore Storm (Won 4-2 vs Modesto) (25-27 on the season)<\/p>\n

Zach Evans<\/a> \u2013 3-for-4, Double, RBI<\/p>\n

Ryan Wilson<\/a> \u2013 1-for-3, RBI Single<\/p>\n

Will Varmette<\/a> \u2013 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K (80 pitches \u2013 52 strikes)<\/p>\n

Storm right-hander Will Varmette has been on a tear lately, and his strong performances continued. The Huntsville, AL native rattled off 5.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts. It was the right-hander\u2019s best outing on the road this season, as he had struggled in his last road appearance (2.1, 6 ER vs Visalia on May 20). Reliever Igor Gil<\/a> allowed two runs in 0.2 innings of work, and Adam Conrad<\/a> came on in the seventh to try and limit the damage. While Conrad allowed one of two inherited runners to score, he pitched 1.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts, extending his scoreless appearance streak to 11 games and 23.1 innings. Vicarte Domingo tossed a scoreless ninth inning with a strikeout to pick up his second save of the season.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Offensively, the team put up three walks and seven hits. Zach Evans led the charge with three hits, including a double and an RBI single. Evans has been a pillar of consistency for the Storm this season, and you can read EVT\u2019s recent interview with Evans here. While Chase Valentine<\/a> finished hitless in the game, he reached base on a fielding error that allowed Zach Evans to score in the second inning. Ryan Wilson was involved in two of the team\u2019s scoring plays, as he reached on a fielding error in the third inning that saw Lamar King<\/a> Jr score, and hit a fifth-inning RBI single to score Kaden Hollow<\/a>. The team went 2-for-7 with runners in scoring position, but fielding errors and clutch pitching helped pave the way for a win.\u00a0<\/p>\n

ACL Padres (Lost 18-9 in 11 innings vs ACL Guardians) (5-18 on the season)<\/p>\n

Kale Fountain<\/a> \u2013 1-for-1, Triple, Two RBI, Three Runs Scored<\/p>\n

Alcides Hernandez<\/a> \u2013 2-for-3, Two Singles, Two RBI<\/p>\n

Kannon Kemp<\/a> \u2013 4.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K<\/p>\n

The ACL Padres came back from an early 4-0 deficit, but allowed ten runs in the top of the eleventh inning to lose 18-9. Alejandro Lugo<\/a> got the start and lasted all of one out. Lugo allowed three runs on one hit and three walks. Kannon Kemp relieved Lugo and threw 4.2 innings of two-run baseball, striking out two batters. Kemp continues to build up his arm strength after missing 2024 due to injury, and has posted a 4.88 ERA (with an encouraging 3.84 FIP) this season. Tanner Smith<\/a> struck out three in 1.2 innings, lowering his season ERA to 3.60 after a scoreless outing. Darlin Mendez<\/a> allowed the tying runs to score in 0.1 innings of work, setting up the game to extra innings. Manuel Davila<\/a> allowed the automatic runner to score in the tenth, and then backed out for the eleventh. Davila allowed a walk and a single to lead off the inning before being relieved by Roberto Burgos<\/a>. Burgos walked in a run before allowing a single and another walk to turn the score from 8-8 to 12-8. Back-to-back fielding errors by Kevin Hacen<\/a> and Emil Turbi<\/a> extended the deficit from four runs to eight before Burgos was pulled. Jesus Castro<\/a> entered the game and allowed a single and fielding error to score two more runs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kale Fountain had a triple in three plate appearances, walking twice and scoring every time he reached base. Alcides Hernandez, who came on later, taking over for Fountain, hit two singles and drove in two runs in three at-bats. Albert Fabian<\/a>, who missed most of last season due to a significant leg injury, began a rehab assignment with the ACL Padres, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single and a stolen base. Jesmaylin Arias<\/a> had two hits, including a double, and the team stole a combined six bases in the loss, including a steal of home by Kale Fountain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Top international prospect Carlos Alvarez made his DSL debut, and there were some nerves on display. The left-hander pitcher walked four in his first start, departing after just two outs. The left-hander did not allow a base hit, with the lone run scoring against him coming on a double play grounder that resulted in one out thanks to a throwing error. Johan Minaya<\/a> relieved Alvarez and tossed 3.1 scoreless innings for the win, while Jose Ortiz<\/a> struck out five in three innings to record the save.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another top prospect had himself a day, as Deivid Coronil had two base hits in his second career game. Jhojan Downer<\/a> had a single in four at-bats, and Sebastian Pena had an RBI single in the game as well. The Padres Gold went wild on the basepaths, stealing nine bases in seven innings of work. Eddson Martinez<\/a> stole three bases in the game, and the duo of Jhojan Downer and Moises Valdez<\/a> had two steals apiece. The Padres Gold capitalized on eight walks by Dodgers pitchers to score a run on a double steal and two on wild pitches.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DSL Padres Brown (Won 5-1 vs DSL Reds) (2-0 on the season)<\/p>\n

Left-hander Marco Eluscat made his first start of the season, tossing four innings of one-run baseball. Eluscat struck out four batters while walking just one. Right-hander Wilfred Paca made his professional debut in relief of Eluscat, throwing three scoreless innings with three strikeouts.<\/p>\n

Darian Castillo had two hits out of the leadoff spot, with a bunt single scoring a run for the Padres. Jose Verdugo had two RBI in the ballgame, singling in a run in the third and drawing a bases-loaded walk in the fourth inning. Clay Winklaar<\/a> singled in a run, reaching base twice and scoring two runs. Endy Rios<\/a> also scored a run after reaching base on a walk.\u00a0<\/p>\n
