{"id":785269,"date":"2026-08-22T07:54:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T07:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/785269\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T07:54:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T07:54:27","slug":"dodgers-win-on-tommy-edmans-walk-off-andy-pages-suffers-fracture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/785269\/","title":{"rendered":"Dodgers win on Tommy Edman&#8217;s walk-off; Andy Pages suffers fracture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Those who were at Dodger Stadium on a gorgeous Friday night seemed to be in for an all-nighter. <\/p>\n<p>They have <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2024-10-01\/dodgers-tommy-edman-utility-man-versatility-trade-deadline\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tommy Edman<\/a> to thank for getting home a bit earlier.<\/p>\n<p>With two outs in the 10th, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-05-14\/dodgers-kike-hernandez-rehab-assignment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez<\/a> on third and Kyle Tucker  on first, the second baseman hit a walk-off single against Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Gregory Soto, earning the Dodgers a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/gameday\/pirates-vs-dodgers\/2026\/08\/21\/823911\/final\/summary\/all\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">5-4 win<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, it feels great,\u201d Edman said. \u201cWe\u2019ve kind of been struggling a little bit in those clutch situations, myself included, so it felt really good to come through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edman entered the at-bat 0 for 3 and was seemingly on the verge of keeping the 200-minute game alive in an unfavorable way.<\/p>\n<p>Soto, however, threw the same low-middle sweeper that Edman fouled off one pitch earlier, and the second baseman jumped on it the second time around, propelling the Dodgers (78-51) to four consecutive wins for the first time since late July.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s something I really try to take pride in \u2014 leaving past at-bats behind me \u2014 and I think I\u2019ve done a good job of that this year,\u201d Edman said. \u201cI think that\u2019s something we do really well overall as a group, and that leads to coming through in big situations like that, putting past at-bats behind you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the best feelings after grinding for 10 innings,\u201d he added. \u201cWe had a bunch of pitchers do a really good job today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-06-13\/yoshinobu-yamamoto-loses-perfect-game-bid-white-sox\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Yoshinobu Yamamoto<\/a> was one of those pitchers.<\/p>\n<p>           <img id=\"yt-img-QlppJt9lT0A\" class=\"absolute\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787385263_609_hqdefault.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"\/>                 <\/p>\n<p>The right-hander brought the urgency to the mound that the Dodgers were missing during an abysmal 5-11 stretch that ended with a sweep against the Colorado Rockies this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI personally felt like today\u2019s game is very important,\u201d Yamamoto said. \u201cWe\u2019re gonna have [<a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-08-17\/dodgers-letting-down-tarik-skubal-struggles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tarik<\/a>] <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-08-17\/dodgers-letting-down-tarik-skubal-struggles\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Skubal<\/a> starting [Saturday], and I just wanted to maintain the momentum, which started in Colorado.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yamamoto surrendered two runs \u2014 both via singles from Pirates designated hitter Nick Gonzales \u2014 on five hits over 6\u2153 innings, striking out nine and walking one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy stuff was pretty good today,\u201d Yamamoto said. \u201cI was feeling pretty good out there. So even after letting runners on the bases, I just tried to focus and then take it one hitter at a time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pirates starter Bubba Chandler, meanwhile, exited after four innings. <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-08-17\/dodgers-max-muncy-mlb-service-time\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Muncy<\/a> hit a two-run homer in the first, and <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-08-16\/dodgers-need-mookie-to-be-mookie-commentary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mookie Betts<\/a> hit a two-RBI single in the third.<\/p>\n<p>The Dodgers, with a 4-2 lead, cruised into the eighth. But Kyle Hurt gave up a tying two-run homer to Oneil Cruz.<\/p>\n<p>            <img class=\"image\" alt=\"Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivers against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second inning Friday night.\"   width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787385265_140_.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>         <\/p>\n<p>Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto delivers against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second inning Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>(Gina Ferazzi \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/p>\n<p>Matters looked grim for the Dodgers in the 10th when <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/player\/evan-phillips-623465\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Evan Phillips<\/a> found himself in a one-out, bases-loaded jam.<\/p>\n<p>All was well, though, once Phillips got Henry Davis to ground into an inning-ending, 6-4-3 double play.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was great,\u201d Roberts said of Phillips. \u201cI know that he\u2019s trying to kind of build as we\u2019re going through this, and [it] hasn\u2019t been smooth sailing for him and the success that he\u2019s used to. But this is a big one. Big confidence builder for him &#8230; to strand those two runners was a big outing for him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edman took care of the rest.<\/p>\n<p>And for maybe the first time in weeks, the Dodgers appear to be inching back to their champion ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think our guys are kind of reinterested, you know, collectively,\u201d Roberts said before the game. \u201cSo, that\u2019s a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andy Pages sustains hand fracture            <img class=\"image\" alt=\"Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages gets hit by a pitch during the third inning against the Pirates on Friday night.\"   width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787385266_138_.jpeg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>         <\/p>\n<p>Dodgers center fielder Andy Pages gets hit by a pitch during the third inning against the Pirates on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>(Gina Ferazzi \/ Los Angeles Times)<\/p>\n<p>Roberts said <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-06-14\/dodgers-andy-pages-navigates-rising-us-cuba-tensions\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andy Pages<\/a> sustained a fracture on the back of his left hand when he was hit by a 100-mph pitch from Chandler in the third. Roberts said Pages likely will miss four to five weeks. It\u2019s unclear if he will need surgery.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, it\u2019s just really unfortunate, obviously,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cIt\u2019s not season-ending. &#8230; So, I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side. &#8230; I feel for him because he\u2019s having such a good year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roberts said Edman is an option to fill in for Pages in center field.<\/p>\n<p>In a more positive development, <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2026-05-29\/abs-dodgers-will-smith-pitch-framing\" data-autoplayable-video=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Will Smith<\/a> faced live pitching for the first time since June, and Roberts said that the plan is to activate the catcher during the first week of September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday was a good day for Will,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cTaking at-bats. He\u2019ll catch a couple bullpens today. He\u2019ll do a couple more lives. &#8230; He still needs to get his legs back under him before we feel confident that he can take down a major league game and feel good coming out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roberts added that Smith is \u201cgonna play in the postseason\u201d and that there is enough time for him to reach 100% strength.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Glasnow will likely be activated during the Dodgers\u2019 upcoming road trip to Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just saw him. He had a great outing \u2014 his last rehab outing,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cI\u2019m not sure which day we\u2019re gonna pencil him in against the Braves, but if all of the things check out, it\u2019ll be that [series].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ohtani will return to the mound at some point this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s gonna happen,\u201d Roberts said. \u201c[Ohtani] threw another bullpen. &#8230; I think that there\u2019s going to be a live or two, and then he\u2019ll be on the mound. I just don\u2019t know when we\u2019re going to do that with the scheduling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dalton Rushing is \u201cpain-free\u201d and close to facing live pitching, according to Roberts, but the catcher is \u201cunlikely\u201d to return to catching this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope I\u2019m wrong,\u201d Roberts said. \u201cBut he\u2019s determined to go through the process, the progression, the build-up and get back.
