{"id":797971,"date":"2026-09-06T09:04:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/797971\/"},"modified":"2026-09-06T09:04:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T09:04:00","slug":"morgantown-regional-set-as-west-virginia-earns-no-16-national-seed-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/mlb\/797971\/","title":{"rendered":"Morgantown Regional Set as West Virginia Earns No. 16 National Seed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORGANTOWN, W.Va.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0The West Virginia University baseball team has earned the No. 16 national seed and learned the three other teams that will play in the 2026 NCAA Morgantown Regional from May 29-June 1, at Kendrick Family Ballpark.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Mountaineers have earned their 17th NCAA Championship berth in program history and fourth consecutive. WVU, an at-large team, will host an NCAA Regional for the third time in school history and first since 2019.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWest Virginia, seeded No. 1 in its regional, will host No. 2-seed Wake Forest, No. 3-seed Kentucky and No. 4-seed Binghamton. The Mountaineers will open play against on Friday, May 29, at 5 p.m. ET against Binghamton on ESPN+, while Wake Forest and Kentucky will meet in Friday&#8217;s first game, at 12 p.m.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOn Saturday, May 30, the winners of Friday&#8217;s games will meet while the losers will play in an elimination game. On Sunday, the winner of Saturday&#8217;s elimination game and the loser of Saturday&#8217;s winner&#8217;s bracket contest will square off with the winner advancing to the Regional Final to face the winner of Saturday&#8217;s winner&#8217;s bracket game. If necessary, a seventh game will be played on Monday.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Mountaineers are looking to make it three consecutive regional titles as they won the Tucson Regional in 2024 and Clemson Regional in 2025. WVU has never made it to the College World Series.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWest Virginia is 39-14 this season and finished second in the Big 12 with a 21-9 record. The Mountaineers fell to Kansas, also selected as a host, in the Big 12 Tournament title game.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWake Forest enters regional play with a 38-19 overall record and finished tied for fifth in the ACC with a 16-14 mark. The Demon Deacons will be making their fifth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance and will be looking to make it to Omaha for the fourth time in program history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nKentucky is 31-21 this season and finished 13th\u00a0in the SEC with a 13-17 record. The Wildcats are making their fourth straight regional appearance and are looking for the second College World Series berth in program history.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBinghamton enters the postseason with a 31-20 overall record and finished in first place in the America East with a 17-7 mark before winning the America East Tournament as well. It is the Bearcats&#8217; second consecutive regional appearance and seventh overall.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nPriority ticket and parking requests for NCAA Baseball Regional and Super Regional\u00a0tickets are now closed. Fans who submitted requests through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wvugame.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WVUGAME.com<\/a>\u00a0will be notified today if their request has been fulfilled or denied. Ticket locations are subject to availability and may differ from regular season seat locations.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nWVU Student tickets for Friday&#8217;s WVU game will be available on Wednesday, May 28 at noon on a first-come, first-serve basis and are free courtesy of United Bank. WVU Students must log in to their\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wvugame.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WVUGAME.com<\/a>\u00a0account to claim a ticket. For additional Regional games, tickets will become available at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday pending WVU&#8217;s advancement. If necessary, information regarding tickets for a potential Game 7 will be communicated at a later time.
