The S.F. Giants are \u201coffering season ticket holders a chance to earn a bit of money on their tickets, simply by showing up to some games,\u201d according to Alex Simon of SFGATE. For any season ticket holder who attended games for this week\u2019s three-game series against the Cardinals, or who comes out to the Sept. 21-23 games against the Twins, the Giants are \u201cgiving out a credit \u2018equal to 15% of that ticket\u2019s value.\u2019\u201d The team is also \u201capplying an additional 5% boost to the credit total if the Giants win,\u201d which they did in all three games against the Cardinals this week, making for a \u201cpossible total credit of 20% for those games.\u201d It is \u201cnot a direct cash payment, but rather a credit in their ticketing account.\u201d Those credited funds can \u201cthen be used to bring down the total of future ticket purchases.\u201d The Giants are \u201cnot allowing season ticket holders to earn the credits if they sold their tickets on secondary marketplaces like StubHub, SeatGeek or others.\u201d The team\u2019s \u201chorrific season on the field,\u201d plus some fans\u2019 reaction to the team\u2019s handling of the Pride Night controversy<\/a>, has \u201ccratered attendance in the second half of the season.\u201d All nine games with fewer than 30,000 fans have happened in August and September (SFGATE, 9\/10<\/a>).<\/p>\n

GETTING CREATIVE: SBJ\u2019s Mike Mazzeo wrote \u201cwhen performance falters, the business side must find other ways to attract fans\u201d without lowering \u201cthe value of the ticket or training fans to wait for a discount.\u201d Teams are \u201cfinding different ways to strike that balance.\u201d The Mets sought to \u201cidentify ways to show appreciation to loyal fans while giving other potential ticket buyers more reason to come to Citi Field\u201d in the second half of the season. The idea that \u201cstood out\u201d was a $10 Amazin\u2019 Fan Reward credit attached to every ticket that could be used to purchase food, beverages or merchandise at remaining home games. Though the program was a \u201cfinancial investment that could approach eight figures,\u201d the credit had a 70% usage rate during the Mets\u2019 most recent homestand since its July 20 unveiling. Mets President of Business Operations Lew Sherr said, \u201cThe reaction from the public has been exactly as we had hoped, which is, \u2018Hey, say what you want about the way the season has played out, the Mets have done something right here and rewarded their fans and their loyalty.\u2019 And that\u2019s helped, I think, buoy attendance, though the original motivation was a gesture to our supporters during what has admittedly been a tough year\u201d (SBJ, Mike Mazzeo<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The S.F.
