After carrying the highest payroll in Major League Baseball, the team failed to live up to lofty expectations, and their playoff hopes officially vanished at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles<\/a>, led by former franchise cornerstone Pete Alonso<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the victory over his former club, Alonso addressed the media and insisted he harbors no hard feelings toward the Mets<\/a> for not offering him an extension prior to free agency. \u201cWhen you have a really good opportunity and you have great dialogue, you don\u2019t necessarily want to ruin that,\u201d Alonso said.<\/p>\n
