His second-inning blast served as career homer No. 300 in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/27\/sports\/tight-knit-mets-see-plenty-to-build-on-in-2027-despite-last-place-finish\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Mets\u2019 6-4 loss <\/a>to the Nationals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Mets shortstop had been sitting at No. 299 since Sept. 12, when he <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/09\/12\/sports\/mets-francisco-lindor-stays-red-hot-with-big-day-in-rout-of-yankees\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">homered twice against the Yankees<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wasn\u2019t trying [to homer] the past couple of days, I was just trying to have good at-bats,\u201d Lindor said. \u201cAnd then today I said, \u2018I am going to try to hit a home run.\u2019 It doesn\u2019t work out that way all the time, but today it did. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Lindor, who missed two months with a calf strain, finished his season with 21 homers and a .732 OPS.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo hit 300 [homers] you have got to be healthy for a long time,\u201d Lindor said. \u201cThe trainers here, in Cleveland, my people, have helped me a lot to stay on the field. It seems like it\u2019s a day for me, but it\u2019s for all these people that wish me to be better day in and day out that made me better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sean Manaea allowed five earned runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings to conclude his season with a 4.78 ERA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The lefty said his focus this offseason will be building up velocity. Manaea struggled this season to maintain consistency with his fastball.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least having that for spring training, at least from the [start] and then my breaking ball,\u201d Manaea said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manaea appeared on the right track at midseason \u2014 he had a brutal three months to begin the season \u2014 but concluded with a 6.35 ERA over his final seven starts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say [this season] was a disappointment \u2014 we didn\u2019t as a team do what we needed to do,\u201d Manaea said. \u201cI personally didn\u2019t need to do what I needed to do. There were flashes of some really good times. There was also a lot of negative things. Overall, I would say it was a disappointment.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Carson Benge went 3-for-5 for a third straight multihit game.
