Whoever leads the staff will have an important job ahead. The Reds have young arms to build around, but getting more consistent production from that group needs to be a priority next season. Hunter Greene will miss all of next season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last month. <\/p>\n
This adds another important decision to Cincinnati\u2019s offseason. The Reds have plenty to address, and based on Rosecrans\u2019 comments, their pitching coach position could be part of that list.<\/p>\n

Emilio Pagan spoke to the media on Sunday and discussed the season as a whole. He acknowledged that injuries played a role in the Reds\u2019 disappointing season, but made it clear the team\u2019s problems went beyond that.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, it\u2019s easy to point to untimely injuries,” Pagan said<\/a>. “But the fact of the matter is, we didn\u2019t execute well enough as a team, as an organization, as individuals, to be the type of team that we thought we were going to be. We have to find a way to be more consistent in that execution — in all facets of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n Pagan is right. The Reds cannot enter next season assuming better health will fix everything. Injuries hurt, but this team also failed to play consistently enough to meet expectations. Getting better will require more than getting injured players back on the field.<\/p>\n
