SALT LAKE CITY \u2013\u00a0Once a versatile infielder\/outfielder with the BYU Cougars, Andrew Pintar\u2019s<\/a> career is taking off after applying a full-time focus in centerfield.<\/p>\n

A trade from a deep Arizona Diamondbacks organization to the Miami Marlins in 2024 might be the best thing that has happened to Pintar since being drafted in 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey make suggestions, but they traded because they just like what I do, how I play the game, and they just said, kind of, continue being me and go and play every day like I have been,\u201d Pintar told MLB\u2019s Jim Callis<\/a> after learning about the trade. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what I\u2019ve been doing, just trying to learn new things from different guys and coaches that I meet. It\u2019s been a good transition.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spanish Fork, Utah native has hit safely in 31 of 49 games, including a pair of four-hit performances.<\/p>\n

After batting .269 with just three walks against 27 punchouts in March and April, he has stepped up in May. Pintar slashed .308\/.366\/.484 with eight extra base hits, three homers, and 15 RBI, while drawing eight walks.<\/p>\n

The speed element of his game has also been evident, with 13 stolen bases in 17 attempts.<\/p>\n

Could Pintar\u2019s play force a September call-up for the former BYU walk-on?<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrew Pintar is another guy our group absolutely loves,\u201d director of Minor League operations Hector Crespo said. \u201cI think [he\u2019s] not a guy that\u2019s talked about as much as some of the other ones, but [he\u2019s a] center fielder with a plus run tool and can absolutely go get it in center field. So, really excited what our group has had to say about him as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The @Marlins<\/a> no. 29 prospect and 2024 Peoria Javelinas outfielder had four hits today for the @JaxShrimp<\/a> including a 104.5 mph two run homer while reaching base five times. A second baseman, shortstop, and centerfielder in three seasons (2020-22) with BYU, Pintar hit .298 with nine long balls and 46 RBI in Provo. His best season came in 2021, when he hit nine homers and drove in 32 while batting .333.<\/p>\n

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Pintar in the fifth round of the 2022 MLB draft, the highest Cougar draft pick in a decade. In 2023, he hit .241 in 37 games at High-A Hillsboro.<\/p>\n

The Miami Marlins organization acquired him in a 2024 trade deadline deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.<\/p>\n
