Last Sunday, the New York Mets<\/a> played their final game of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

They lost to the Washington Nationals<\/a> by a score of 6-4 (on the road).<\/p>\n

The Mets missed the MLB<\/a> playoffs for the second straight year (despite a talented roster).<\/p>\n

Ex-Mets Star May Retire With $395 Million<\/p>\n

With the Mets\u2019 season over, it\u2019s worth noting that a former star of the franchise could end up retiring.<\/p>\n

Max Scherzer<\/a> (who is 42) just finished his 19th season at the MLB level.<\/p>\n

He went 4-9 with a 5.74 ERA in 18 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MLB wrote<\/a> (on September 27): \u201cMax Scherzer leaves the mound to a standing ovation for what could be the final time in his legendary career \ud83d\udc4f\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also worth pointing out that Scherzer is one of the highest paid players in all of MLB history.<\/p>\n

Once all of his final payments are made, the former Mets star will have $395 million in career earnings (h\/t Spotrac<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Looking At Scherzer\u2019s Time In New York<\/p>\n

While Scherzer has had a Hall of Fame career, it\u2019s easy to forget that he spent part of two years pitching for the Mets (2022-23).<\/p>\n

During the 2022 season, he was excellent.<\/p>\n

Scherzer went 11-5 with a 2.29 ERA in 23 starts.<\/p>\n

The Mets traded Scherzer to the Texas Rangers during the middle of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n
