The chalet was used from 1993 until 2000, when the Brewers and Bernie moved into what is now American Family Field.

Lakefront Brewery owner Russ Klisch, a Brewers fan, said he saw an opportunity when the team moved.

“I called them up and asked if I could buy it, and they said yes,” Klisch said. “They said $15,000. And I thought that would be good for us and a good price and to have something iconic in our location. So ran down there right away, and I gave them a check.”

Klisch said getting the chalet into the brewery was not easy, but friends with machinery-moving experience helped make it happen.

Now, the former Bernie Brewer chalet sits available for fans to explore, and guests can reserve it for a meal. Its walls are covered with hundreds of signatures and messages from visitors, creating a record of Brewers fandom.

“Everybody comes in here, signs it,” Klisch said.

Klisch said the display draws more than just Brewers fans. Some visitors remember watching Bernie slide at County Stadium, while others are general baseball fans.

“You have a lot of either out-of-town people that still know about it,” Klisch said. “They used to watch Sports Center and they will always remember Bernie sliding down the slide. And they have a lot of fun memories of it. So it’s just not always Brewer fans, but I find just baseball fans in general.”

Yatin Sorap, a Milwaukee visitor from India, said he stopped at Lakefront Brewery while visiting his son, who recommended the stop.

“It’s amazing,” Sorap said. “The way it even put up and the way that it’s been displayed. It’s really cool. And it feels good.”

Klisch also owns the first iteration of the chalet that was demolished in 1984, which is occasionally displayed for fans.

With the Brewers still playing, Klisch said he is proud to help preserve a piece of Milwaukee baseball history.

“I’ve been going to Brewer games since then after seeing the first game they ever played,” Klisch said. “To me, this was a good part of Milwaukee history.”

MILWAUKEE — As the Milwaukee Brewers take Monday off before facing the Padres in San Diego with a…

[2290
99152,556,560,5,100022,5870,169,185,558,1542,1519
post-822481","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-baseball","tag-app-editors-picks","tag-app-sports","tag-app-top-stories","tag-baseball","tag-blake-dietz","tag-editors-pick","tag-news","tag-sports","tag-top-stories","tag-vod","tag-wisconsin
["GET
