This week’s column is dedicated to Mr. John Fort of Hibbing. He passed away last month.

Mr. Fort served as an Airborne Ranger with Company H, 75th Infantry, attached to the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War.

Thank you for all of your service Mr. For.,

Rest in peace.

Good

I know that my readers had to know that this would be in my “Good” this week.

Chicago Cubs centerfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong won the MLB Player of the Year award on Tuesday. He received 21 of the 24 first place votes.

PCA hit .280 with 45 home runs, 107 RBIs, 119 runs, and 41 stolen bases.

What a season he had.

He helped to get the Cubs to the playoffs, where they fell to San Diego. There is always next year.

Thanks for the unreal season “PCA.”

—

Finally, the Rock Ridge girls tennis team opened up the Section 7AA tournament this week and picked up wins over Princeton and Hibbing.

The Wolverines took care of business and coasted to 7-0 wins in both maches.

Rock Ridge will take on No. 2 North Branch on Tuesday in Virginia for the section title.

The Wolverines are playing some unbelievable tennis and I really expect them to continue.

Keep it going Wolverines.

State is right around the corner.

—

Bad

How about the NFL suspending two officials for some games?

Usually it’s two players being suspended and not officials.

Line judge Jeff Seeman was suspended two games for swearing at Arizona’s Trey McBride and referee Adrian Hill for one game for yelling and gesturing at Minnesota’s Eric Wilson.

Now the NFL Referees Association will challenge the severity of the suspensions.

I think this might go on for a while.

—

Ugly

In case you are wondering, the International Olympic Committee is getting close to naming the winner of the bidding for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

Like we know what will be going on in ten years.

India and Qatar are now in the hunt for hosting the games.

I guess in ten years, we will know.

The Good, Bad and Ugly Trivia Challenge

The question last week: “This pitcher won 20 games in 1977, finished third in the National League Cy Young, and made the All Star game as a Cub. He also won the Gold Glove and finished his career with 214 wins. He later pitched in the World Series, but not with the Cubs. Who is it?”

Nineteen readers knew it was Rick “Big Daddy” Reuschel.

The names were numbered and Kelly, at the front desk of the paper, picked number 11, which made Dave Saranen a winner. Your cards are on the way, Dave.

There won’t be a trivia question this week.

Jimmy will be in Minneapolis, meeting with his neurologist for a checkup on his MS. No column next week.

—

That will do it for this week.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff—It’s Only Sports.
