Did you know that he actually posted a lower strikeout rate (26.6 percent) than he did in Triple-A (29.9 percent) earlier in the year?

It is true. Before the Giants called up Eldridge, they wanted him to bring down his strikeout rate. They knew he would swing and miss at a high rate, but as long as he hit for power, it would be easy to overlook.

The good news is that Eldridge hit for a lot of power, and he was able to cut his strikeout rate by a few points. For much of his minor league career, he flirted with a 30-percent strikeout rate.

The lowered strikeout was one of many positive traits from SF Giants hitter Bryce Eldridge in 2026

During Eldridge’s time in the majors this year, he lowered that mark to a 26.6 percent strikeout rate. At 84.0 percent, the zone contact rate hovered around the league average. This is usually an indicator of bat-to-ball skills, and Eldridge did fine in that category.

The left-handed bat’s plate discipline improved as he moved up the minor league ladder. By the time he reached the Giants this season, he offered some of the best at-bat quality on the team. This lead to a healthy 13.2 percent walk rate.

While Eldridge did not chase out of the zone often, he made contact at a decent rate. He posted a 54.4 percent chase contact rate, compared to a 41.2 percent rate during his time in Triple-A this year. Eldridge did not go out of the zone often, but when he did, he made contact at a respectable rate. That is likely the biggest reason for the lower strikeout rate in the majors compared to Triple-A.

This all led to a palatable strikeout rate. Of course, this was not the only positive from Eldridge in 2026. He slashed .269/.364/.461 (131 wRC+) with 17 home runs, 57 RBI, and 50 runs in 448 plate appearances.

The 21-year-old hitter put up some of the best offensive numbers of any rookie this season. While that would normally merit serious consideration for the Rookie of the Year Award, he does not offer a lot of positional value, given that he is limited to first base and DH.

Nevertheless, the Giants were excited about Eldridge’s rookie season and what the future holds. While the season was a disaster on many fronts, they may have found a formidable middle-of-the-order duo with Eldridge and Rafael Devers.

Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow

Bryce Eldridge put together a promising rookie season for the SF Giants in 2026.
