The procedure was performed by Dr. Anish R. Kadakia at Northwestern Medical in Chicago.

The fifth metatarsal is the long bone connecting the pinky toe to the rest of the foot.

Durbin recently wrapped up his first season with the Red Sox, coming to Boston along with Anthony Seigler and Andruw Monasterio in a spring trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. The third baseman got off to a terrible start at the plate before turning his season around and helping power the club’s dramatic second-half turnaround.

Durbin finished the season batting .248 with 13 home runs, 64 RBI, 20 stolen bases, a .710 OPS and 4.3 Wins Above Replacement, and he is also a finalist to win his first career Gold Glove at third base. He did that despite playing a significant portion of the season injured, battling through his dislocated pinky since at least the end of June.

The foot injury was not previously disclosed, so it’s unclear when it originally happened and how long Durbin may have been playing through it.

Several weeks after undergoing surgery on his injured left pinky finger, Red Sox third baseman Caleb Durbin has…

[2395
5,48,3615,101766,1816,778,58,4171,4,89,7826
post-841075","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami-marlins","tag-baseball","tag-boston-red-sox","tag-caleb-durbin","tag-fifth-metatarsal","tag-marlins","tag-miami","tag-miami-marlins","tag-miamimarlins","tag-mlb","tag-red-sox","tag-surgery
["GET
