A pair of National League West rivals wrapped up a four-game series Thursday, with the San Francisco Giants edging the San Diego Padres, 3-2. The win allowed the Giants to even the series and move to 35-28, while the Padres fell to 35-26 in the tight division race.<\/p>\n

The biggest moment of the game came early. In the top of the third inning, Padres third baseman Manny Machado launched his eighth home run of the season, marking the 350th of his career. MLB celebrated the milestone postgame, recognizing the veteran slugger’s achievement.<\/p>\n

Machado\u2019s blast came off Giants starter Robbie Ray and gave the Padres a 2-0 lead. But Ray quickly settled in and dominated from there, tossing seven strong innings while allowing just four hits and two earned runs. He also struck out nine in the outing.<\/p>\n

The Giants responded immediately in the bottom of the third, plating three runs that wrap up the game\u2019s scoring. That rally proved to be all they needed to secure the win.<\/p>\n

Machado collected two hits in the loss and boosted his season average to .317, which ranks third in the National League behind only Los Angeles Dodgers stars Freddie Freeman and Will Smith.<\/p>\n

There are now five active MLB players with 350 or more home runs. Giancarlo Stanton leads the group with 429 at age 35. He\u2019s followed by Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, Freeman and Machado. Nolan Arenado, Bryce Harper and Aaron Judge are also closing in and are all expected to reach the 350 mark sometime this season.<\/p>\n

Historically, Machado\u2019s 350th homer places him in a tie for 101st on the all-time MLB list. His next long ball will match him with Dick Allen, who hit 351 during his 15-year career.<\/p>\n

San Diego heads to Milwaukee next, where they\u2019ll begin a three-game weekend set against the Brewers on Friday.<\/p>\n
