WHITEHALL \u2013 The Vikings baseball season came to an end May 31 when they fell to Fruitport 6-1 in the Michigan High School Athletic Association district finals.<\/p>\n
But before that, they got a win in the district semifinal victory over Orchard View in five innings, 11-0, ending under the mercy rule.<\/p>\n
In the district final, Fruitport got off to a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and another run in the bottom of the second.<\/p>\n
They took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth and scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-0.<\/p>\n
The Vikings finally got on the scoreboard as Brock Morningstar singled to drive in Jaxon Kulesza in the top of the top of the seventh inning.<\/p>\n
Morningstar got two hits and drove in the Vikings only run of the game.<\/p>\n
Evan Thomas of the Vikings took the loss as he went three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits, striking out two and walking six.<\/p>\n
Morningstar came in relief and pitched 2 and one-third innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out one and walking two.<\/p>\n
However, to make it to the district finals, the Vikings had to get by Orchard View, which they did in a rout.<\/p>\n
In the bottom of the second, The Vikings took a 1-0 lead when a wild pitch scored Nate Betz.<\/p>\n
Then, the Vikings Justin Jensen scored on a wild pitch, and Noah Morse would come home on an error by the Orchard View first baseman.<\/p>\n
Cody Manzo also scored in the inning on a dropped third strike on a pitch to Jakobe Monroe, who was thrown out at first.<\/p>\n
At that point, the score was 4-0 Whitehall.<\/p>\n
The Vikings would get the final runs of the game in the bottom of the fourth.<\/p>\n
Betz walked, and Manzo scored, Evan Thomas grounded into a fielder\u2019s choice play, driving in Morse.<\/p>\n
Two more runs scored when Morningstar singled and Betz came home, and Monroe scored on a wild pitch.<\/p>\n
And finally, Eli Winters gets a single, driving in both Morningstar and Thomas.<\/p>\n
After Orchard View failed to score a run in the top of the fifth, the game was mercied.<\/p>\n
At the plate, Winters went one for two, driving in two runs.<\/p>\n
Morningstar, Betz, Monroe and Noah Peterson also got one hit for the Vikings.<\/p>\n
On the mound, Morningstar gave up no hits and no runs, struck out five and walked one in four innings of work.<\/p>\n
