The day after the Padres<\/a> came out on the wrong end of an intense game with the Dodgers, they enjoyed sweet revenge Tuesday in an 11-1 laugher at Petco Park.<\/p>\n

Manny Machado had three hits and drove in five runs \u2013 matching his career RBI high \u2013 and Luis Arraez had three hits and scored four times as the Friars capitalized on Los Angeles\u2019 lack of major league pitchers.<\/p>\n

Dylan Cease (2-5) also got back on track, striking out 11 and yielding three hits over seven scoreless innings. He ended his 11-start winless streak and faced his biggest battle in the third, ending a bases-loaded jam. <\/p>\n

Manager Mike Shildt called Cease\u2019s performance a \u201cgreat blueprint\u201d for how he can dominate going forward, from throwing mostly strikes to getting quick outs.<\/p>\n

\u201cHundred pitches, seven innings, that\u2019s pretty much the recipe,\u201d the skipper said.<\/p>\n

The Dodgers\u00a0won the clubs\u2019 unusually late season opener 8-7<\/a>\u00a0in a 10-inning thriller Monday, but the second game was barely competitive due to the defending World Series champs\u2019 pitching woes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Dodgers have 14 pitchers on the injured list, and they handed this game over to Matt Sauer (1-1), who had been recalled from the minors to provide bulk innings. The Dodgers stuck to the plan even though Sauer struggled \u2013 he threw 111 pitches while giving up nine runs on 13 hits.<\/p>\n

It got so bad for L.A. that utilityman Kik\u00e9 Hern\u00e1ndez pitched the final 2 1\/3 innings. He allowed three hits and one earned run while throwing no pitch faster than 57 mph.<\/p>\n

The Padres mounted their first rally with two outs in the third. Fernando Tat\u00eds Jr. drew a walk and scored on Arraez\u2019s double to right. Machado singled home Arraez, extending his hitting streak to eight games, before scoring on Jackson Merrill\u2019s triple to right.<\/p>\n

Mart\u00edn Maldonado hit the Padres\u2019 only homer. Xander Bogaerts had a two-run single. They went up 11-0 in the seventh on Machado\u2019s two-run single off Hern\u00e1ndez to drive in Maldonado and Arraez.<\/p>\n

Merrill looked back on Monday\u2019s loss during the Padres\u2019 post-game broadcast, but said the team had to let it go.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a good game yesterday, you have to admit,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was one of the best baseball games of the year. So, just overcome it and move forward to today.\u201d<\/p>\n
