The University of Utah\u2019s new baseball stadium, America First Ballpark, is getting some Major League help.<\/p>\n
After receiving a \u201csignificant\u201d donation from Colorado Rockies owner and Utah alumni Charlie Monfort, the university announced Tuesday that the baseball stadium\u2019s field will be named Charlie Monfort Field. Construction on the new complex started earlier this summer at the location of the Utes current practice field on Guardsman Way. The stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a high priority for our department to provide a home stadium that allows the Utes to compete at the highest level in the Big 12 and nationally,\u201d Utah athletic director Mark Harlan said in a news release. \u201cBeing able to train and play in a home venue like Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark provides a major boost to our program, and ensures a bright future for Utah Baseball.\u201d<\/p>\n
Monfort is a founder of the Rockies and has been a general partner for the organization since 1992.<\/p>\n
The Utes\u2019 stadium is expected to cost $35 million, with the majority of the funding privately raised by Utah athletics.<\/p>\n
America First Ballpark will have 1,200 seats, concessions, new bathrooms and other fan amenities. It will also give Utah\u2019s baseball team and staff new locker rooms, coaching offices, and medical spaces alongside indoor batting and pitching cages.<\/p>\n
