How cool would it be if we finally developed a legitimate homegrown closer for this rebuild? When was the last time we did so, you ask? Big bad Bobby Jenks. That’s WAY too long ago.

Alright, let’s get ready for some Wednesday night baseball as the White Sox (23-44) look to continue their surprising recent success against the Houston Astros (36-30)! The Good Guys are coming off a 4-2 victory over the Astros last night, a win that saw them score four runs on just four hits, including a solo homer from Luis Robert Jr.

Sean Burke will take the mound for the Pale Hose this evening at Daikin Park. The righthander currently owns a record of 3-6 with a 4.03 ERA and 50 strikeouts. Picked by the South Siders in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft (No. 94), Burke made his major league debut in September 2024, where he impressed with a 2-0 record and a 1.42 ERA across 19 innings in four appearances (three starts). This season, he’s building on that experience with 11 starts under his belt and averaging 6.7 strikeouts per nine innings. He’s been a bit up and down so far in 2025, but his last three games have been quality starts. Let’s hope he can use that success to keep that train rolling.

Starting for the Astros is Ryan Gusto, an 11th-round pick by Houston in 2019. The righty made his big league debut on March 31, 2025, after a standout 2024 Triple-A campaign where he won the Pacific Coast League’s ERA title with a 3.70 ERA and set a team record, and also led the league with 141 strikeouts. He commands a diverse arsenal, with seven different pitches, including a low-to-mid 90s four-seam fastball, cutter, and curveball. Gusto will be looking to bounce back tonight after giving up three runs on eight hits in 4 1⁄3 innings during his last outing against Pittsburgh. The 26-year-old has only gone five or more innings twice out of his 14 appearances. This guy could be very hittable for this young and aggressive Sox lineup. Get to him early, boys!

Here’s the Chicago offense that will go up against Gusto.

And this is how Houston’s skipper, Joe Espada, lines them up against Burke.

You can watch the broadcast on CHSN at 7:10 p.m. CST, now carried on Comcast, Fubo, and DIRECTV.
