BOSTON \u2014 Top starter Shane McClanahan has paused his official progression through a throwing program after not feeling 100% in his first full-distance bullpen session, and he will seek further medical opinions on the nerve issue in his triceps.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s kind of in shutdown mode,\u201d manager Kevin Cash said before Wednesday\u2019s game against the Red Sox.<\/p>\n
McClanahan has been sidelined since late in spring training with the nerve problem, a somewhat uncommon issue. He started throwing a few weeks ago and at that point, baseball operations president Erik Neander said if all went well he could rejoin the rotation as soon as late July.<\/p>\n
McClanahan threw off a mound at a shortened distance on June 3, then had a 12- to 15-pitch session at the normal distance on Saturday. <\/p>\n
McClanahan last pitched in the majors on Aug. 2, 2023, having undergone Tommy John elbow surgery later that month.
