The Minnesota Timberwolves are aiming for key off-season additions after getting bullied by the OKC Thunder in this year’s Western Conference Finals. The Timberwolves lacked both offensive punch and defensive resistance to contain the young guns from Oklahoma City.
Reports suggest the WCF finalists could target Lonzo Ball as a potential replacement for Mike Conley Jr. The veteran guard couldn’t execute his two-way responsibilities well enough against the energetic OKC Thunder. He was a defensive liability, easily exploited by a side that thrived on attacking his declining agility.
Lonzo Ball could be a perfect glue guy for the Timberwolves and a strong support to Anthony Edwards. The roster is not very far away from the OKC Thunder. If they want to close the gap, rather than let it widen, the front office must act quickly.
Besides, the Timberwolves have also been linked with Kevin Durant. A host of teams are looking at the NBA legend but San Antonio Spurs remain ahead in the race to sign him. Timberwolves will have the pieces to strike a deal with Phoenix Suns. However, question remains how far are they willing to go.
Lonzo Ball’s Shooting Boost Tempts Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled offensively besides Anthony Edwards. Like many other top teams, the Twolves have also lacked a secondary scorer. Lonzo Ball could be the secondary threat that the front office is looking to add.
The Chicago Bulls guard has significantly improved his shooting which could come in handy for the Wolves. He has averaged 38.9% as an off-ball shooter over the past two seasons. While, before that, Lonzo Ball had averaged only 30%. Entering his prime, Ball still has room to grow and refine his all-around game.
Ball remains on a $20 million, two-year deal with the Bulls, making him a manageable trade target. For the salary, the guard looks like a no brainer deal. However, lingering injury issues continue to haunt the 27-year-old guard. He featured in only 35 games during the 2024–25 campaign, raising fresh durability concerns. This could hinder a potential move.
