Several months after taking over as the Sacramento Kings’ interim coach, Doug Christie reached an agreement to become the franchise’s next head coach. Christie, a former player for the Kings during the franchise’s glory days of the early 2000s, talked to KCRA 3’s Michelle Dapper on Friday about this next chapter and his goals for the team.He said that the Kings’ tumultuous 2024-25 season was a learning experience for him. The season included the firing of coach Mike Brown, the De’Aaron Fox trade, a season-ending loss in the NBA Play-In Tournament and parting ways with Monte McNair as general manager. “It was about 120 days that I was sitting in the seat, but I probably got a five or 10 year education,” Christie said. “For me it was invaluable. I was like, ‘Ok, this is an opportunity and a blessing, what can I learn from this?'”| WATCH | Doug Christie’s full introductory press conferenceFor Christie’s full interview with KCRA 3, watch the video at the top of this story.
