Giannis Antetokounmpo Has No Words After Stephen A. Smith’s “Underachiever” Comment originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

On June 13, during ESPN’s “First Take”, host Stephen A. Smith characterized Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo as an “underachiever” if he fails to secure another NBA title before retiring.

The remark, widely circulated on X by NBACentral, prompted a backlash from fans and analysts. NBA insider Mo Mooncey reminded critics of Giannis’s ascent.

“Giannis went from selling sunglasses on a beach in Greece, to a multi‑millionaire who won a championship without having to run off and create a super team,” Mooncey said. “He has over‑achieved his wildest dreams and anyone who thinks otherwise is ridiculous.”

The message resonated so strongly that the Greek Freak himself reposted Mooncey’s praise to his Instagram Story, punctuating it with two “💯” emojis and a “🔥” emoji to signal his wholehearted agreement.

Smith noted Antetokounmpo’s 30.4 points per game over the past four seasons and nine All‑NBA selections, but pointed out that his postseason series wins lag behind his regular‑season dominance.

Since being drafted in 2013, he has earned two league MVP awards, nine All‑Star selections and Defensive Player of the Year honors. Despite repeated playoff disappointments, Antetokounmpo has remained loyal to the franchise. He wants to win badly, but he also wants to win as a Buck.

During free agency, Doc Rivers needs to build a roster around his star forward. Milwaukee’s offense often struggles to keep pace with Antetokounmpo, and that issue must be addressed.

Fans expect big things from the franchise in the upcoming season. Contrary to Smith’s claims, they firmly believe that Antetokounmpo has already achieved every bit of glory.
