What we do know: the Timberwolves broached the possibility of landing Durant at the trade deadline, but there were too many tentacles to make the deal financially work midseason.
The Wolves are in the mix of teams entertaining trade conversations for Durant. The Timberwolves’ odds of landing Durant have been a rollercoaster, with conflicting reports about Durant’s interest and the Timberwolves’ willingness to appease the Phoenix Suns.
As the Durant trade rumors continue to swirl, the Timberwolves’ social media team has asserted what it believes to be true.

In a June 18 post on X (formerly Twitter), the Timberwolves posted photos of McDaniels with the caption: “but we got Jaden McDaniels,” referring to a popular Anthony Edwards quote that has some relation to the ongoing Durant chatter.
“They got KD, but we got Jaden McDaniels,” Edwards said, touting McDaniels’ defensive prowess in the 2024 playoff series that saw the Timberwolves sweep the Suns.
According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, McDaniels “was not on the table when the Wolves contemplated a trade for KD in February.”

“I do not see that changing now,” Krawcznski added in a June 11 X post.
Fans seemed to agree that if it means giving up McDaniels, the Timberwolves will be fine without Durant.
“I for one say he’s officially taken the slim reaper nickname from KD,” one fan wrote of McDaniels.
“And we better ALWAYS have Jaden McDaniels,” a second fan opined.
“We don’t need Kevin Durant,” a third fan added.
“was going to say KD would be his replacement as they play the same position. Small forward is not our weakness. It’s point guard and backup center,” a fourth fan said.
Phoenix is hoping to have a deal settled ahead of the NBA Draft on June 25; whether the Wolves will strike a deal remains to be seen.
