TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. – Memphis Grizzlies’ Zach Edey was charged with reckless driving after a state trooper in Indiana said he was driving over 100 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to a report by ESPN.

ESPN said it happened on a state road in Tippecanoe County.

Citing an affidavit obtained by the Lafayette Journal & Courier, ESPN reported that the Grizzlies center and former Purdue star drove at an excessive speed on State Road 25 in West Point, Ind. He was pulled over for going 101 mph in the 55-mph zone, ESPN said.

According to ESPN, he said he was speeding in attempt to pass up another vehicle.

The 23-year-old, 7-foot-4 center is set to appear in court Monday, ESPN reported.

After being drafted ninth overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Edey had a successful first-year in the league with averages of 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game — enough to earn him an NBA All-Rookie First Team nod.
