We have been hearing rumors for a while that Spurs were interested in acquiring De’Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings, and it really came to head in recent days as reports surfaced that they were working on a four-team deal. Now, in the shadow of the massive trade of Luka Doncic, it has happened. In news first broken by Shams Charania of ESPN, the Spurs will be acquiring Fox as part of a three-team deal with the Chicago Bulls that will also send Zach LaVine to the Kings.

Full trade:

Spurs: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin

Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)

Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS https://t.co/UgwylCUYAO

In all, the Spurs will receive De’Aaron Fox and scarcely-used point guard Jordan McLaughlin from the Kings while sending Sidy Cissoko and three first round picks back to Sacramento. The Bulls will receive Zach Collins, Tre Jones and their 2025 first round pick (that likely wouldn’t have conveyed to the Spurs anyways) back from the Spurs, as well has Kevin Huerter from the Kings. Along with returning the Bulls’ pick, the Spurs also gave up Charlotte’s 2025 first round pick (which, again, likely wouldn’t have conveyed), their own 2027 pick, and Minnesota’s 2031 pick.

We will have much more on this news and what this means for the Spurs going forward, but for now, I’m just over the moon that the Spurs somehow managed to acquire an All-Star caliber player without giving up anyone in their young core. Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan and Stephon Castle are all still Spurs. This hardly could have gone better for them. Go Spurs Go!
