OKC Will Rogers International Airport asks Thunder fans not to gather at airport after Game 6
Thunder fans eager to greet the team following Game 6 on Thursday night will have to avoid the airport.
ALL RIGHT KYLIE, THANKS SO MUCH. NO MATTER THE OUTCOME TONIGHT, PLAYERS OF COURSE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO COME BACK TO OKLAHOMA CITY. THIS TIME, THE TEAM AND THE AIRPORT IS IS ASKING YOU TO TO STAY AWAY. MAYBE NOT WELCOME THEM BACK. KOCO ABIGAIL OGLE JOINING US HERE IN THE NEWSROOM. ABBY. WILL ROGERS ASKING THUNDER FANS TO SUPPORT PLAYERS FROM AFAR. YEAH. YOU KNOW, THE AIRPORT HAS NOW RELEASED AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT ASKING FANS TO TO AVOID GATHERING AT THE AIRPORT. OF COURSE, THIS HAS BECOME A TRADITION AFTER ROAD GAMES, ESPECIALLY IN THE PLAYOFFS, TO GREET OUR TEAM HERE IN OKC. NO MATTER THE HOUR, NO MATTER WHEN THEY LAND. FOR REFERENCE, THIS IS HOW IT LOOKED LAST WEEK WHEN THEY CAME HOME. I MEAN, IT IS A PARTY. THE GUYS LOVE IT. THEY GET OFF THE PLANE, THEY SHAKE HANDS, THEY SIGN AUTOGRAPHS. BUT IF THE THUNDER WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP TONIGHT, THAT ARRIVAL HOME WOULD LIKELY HAPPEN EARLY FRIDAY MORNING, A TIME THAT FLIERS WILL BE SHOWING UP TO THE AIRPORT LOOKING FOR PARKING SPOTS. SO THE AIRPORT IS WORRIED ABOUT THESE SPOTS BEING TAKEN. AND REALLY ALL OF THE EXTRA TRAFFIC DELAYING TRAVELERS. SOME FANS POSTED ONLINE THAT THEY STILL PLAN TO TO TRY TO BE OUT THERE. SO THE AIRPORT SAYS IF YOU HAVE AN EARLY DEPARTURE OR IF YOU WORK AT THE AIRPORT, ARRIVE EVEN EARLIER THAN YOU THINK YOU SHOULD TO ALLOW FOR EXTRA TIME FOR PARKING SECURITY AND CHECK IN ON FRIDAY MORNING. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN THEM ENCOU
