The Brooklyn Nets are less than one week away from the 2025 NBA Draft and that event could bring the team multiple young players with some level of upside. Brooklyn came into this offseason with plenty of draft capital along with cap space, but there may be a way for them to further add to their stash.

The Nets seem to be open to going through the offseason with their draft picks and cap space as is, but it’s possible that they could add a talented player along with some major draft capital. One framework of something that could happen (h/t B/R’s Zach Buckley), Brooklyn would acquire three first-round picks and add a veteran who could shoulder some of the scoring load along the way.

Buckley’s proposal is a three-team trade between the Nets, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the New Orleans Pelicans involving moving pieces like Lakers guard Austin Reaves. While Brooklyn would probably be more interested in acquiring someone like Reaves, Buckley has the Nets coming away from the trade with Pelicans guard CJ McCollum, Lakers forward Dalton Knecht, three first-round picks, two of which would be coming from New Orleans.

While this is just a proposal, the purpose of this writing is to show that the Nets could benefit from being the third team that helps other teams get what they want, something that various experts have been suggesting for Brooklyn to do. For example, the common refrain has been that the Nets could be one of the teams lurking to help the Phoenix Suns trade Kevin Durant since Brooklyn would be compensated for their efforts.

With that being said, there is also the possibility that the Nets stay put and go about the offseason by using their draft picks and cap space to improve the roster in preparation for the 2025-26 campaign. However, with the fact that some teams are looking for draft capital and salary cap relief, Brooklyn could stand the benefit from other teams as evidenced by the aforementioned proposal.
