AND RIGHT NOW WE ARE FOLLOWING BREAKING NEWS AS THE NEW ORLEANS PELICANS ARE FINALIZING A DEAL WITH JOE DUMARS TO BE THE NEW EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FRANCHISE. THIS, AFTER PARTING WAYS WITH DAVID GRIFFIN JUST YESTERDAY. WDSU SPORTS ANCHOR SHARIF ISHAK JOINING US NOW LIVE IN STUDIO WITH A BREAKDOWN OF THE CONTRACT. SHARIF, A FUN AND CRAZY 24 HOURS FOR THE PELICANS. I KNOW FANS ARE FRUSTRATED WITH THE PROCESS. THEY WANTED A FULL OUT SEARCH TO HELP ELEVATE THIS FRANCHISE TO A REAL CONTENDER. BUT IF THE OWNERSHIP AND EXECUTIVES LIKE SOMEONE, THEY’RE GOING TO GO OUT THERE AND GET THAT PERSON. A SOURCE TOLD US YESTERDAY THE DEAL WAS CLOSE TO BEING DONE. NOW IT’S JUST ABOUT CROSSING THE T’S AND DOTTING THE I’S TO MAKE JOE DUMARS THE PELS NEXT VICE PRESIDENT OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS. DUMARS IS WELL LIKED BY TEAM OWNER GAYLE BENSON AND HER TOP DECISION MAKERS, DENNIS LAUSCHA AND GREG BENSEL. DUMARS IS FROM NATCHITOCHES AND WENT TO MCNEESE STATE. HE WON TWO NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS AS A PLAYER WITH THE DETROIT PISTONS, PLAYING FOR THE FRANCHISE FROM 1985 TO 1999. HE WAS THE PISTONS BASKETBALL. PRESIDENT OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS FROM 2000 TO 2014, HELPING LEAD THEM TO THE NBA TITLE IN 2004. PLUS WAS NAMED NBA EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR IN 2003 AND 2006. HE WAS INDUCTED INTO THE NAISMITH BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME. HAD A CHANCE TO CATCH UP WITH DAVID GRUBB FROM THE BIRD RIGHTS ON HOW JOE DUMARS CAN BE SUCCESSFUL WITH THE FRANCHISE. THE QUESTIONS ARE IS WHETHER HAS WHETHER THE GAME HAS PASSED JOE DUMARS BY. HE’S BEEN OUT OF THE DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS OF A TEAM FOR OVER A DECADE NOW, WORKING PRIMARILY WITH THE LEAGUE OFFICE. SO YOU HAVE TO SEE WHAT KIND OF TEAM HE ASSEMBLES AND WHAT THE VISION IS. I THINK THEY’RE REALLY ONLY TWO VISIONS THAT YOU CAN PROCEED WITH WITH THE PELICANS RIGHT NOW. YOU’RE EITHER ALL IN ON ZION WILLIAMSON OR YOU’RE STARTING A REBUILD. AS GRUBB JUST SAID, DUMARS HAS BEEN WORKING IN THE NBA FRONT OFFICE AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND HEAD OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS FOR THE NBA, OVERSEEING ALL ASPECTS OF BASKETBALL OPERATIONS. RANDI. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU FOR THAT. SHARIF, WE APPRECIATE IT. AS FOR THE ODDS OF MAYBE WINNING THE UPCOMING NBA DRAFT LOTTERY ON MAY 12TH, THE PELICANS HAVE A 12.5% CHANCE TO GET THAT NUMBER ONE PICK. NOW THE TEAM WON THE LOTTERY BACK IN 2012, PICKING ANTHONY DAVIS NUMBER ONE OVERALL. AND THEN IN 2019, NEW ORLEANS GOT REALLY LUCKY AND BEAT THE ODDS, JUMPING FIVE TEAMS TO WIN IT AND PICK ZION WILLIAMSON. ALTHOUGH I THINK IT’S KIND OF UP IN THE AIR NOW, IF YOU THINK THAT THAT REALLY PANNED OUT ANYWAY. HAPPENING NOW. NEW ORLEANS POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR
