After starting the season 6-4, including demoralizing losses to the Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm, the Mercury have turned things around and have won four in a row, including three in a row on the road. Most recently, the Mercury defeated the Liberty 89-81, with Monique Akoa-Makani leading the team in scoring with 21 points. Alyssa Thomas continued her tear as well, scoring 18 points to go with 15 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.

While the Sky have been getting a lot of national attention, they’ve been struggling on the court. Chicago has lost four of their last five games, with the lone exception being a 78-66 over Connecticut, highlighted by a triple-double by Angel Reese (11 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists). The 3-point shot has been a significant issue, with the Sky shooting just 30% from outside the arc, ranking 11th in the WNBA, while allowing opponents to shoot 39.1%, the worst amongst all WNBA clubs.

This will be the second matchup of the season between the two teams, with the Mercury defeating the Sky 94-89 on May 27, 2025.
