Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian has reported that the Portland Trail Blazers will not renew the contracts of assistant coaches Roy Rogers, Chris Fleming, and Ryan Gomes, citing NBA sources.
Rogers was hired in 2021 as part of head coach Chauncey Billups’ initial coaching staff. Rogers had previously worked as an assistant coach for seven different NBA teams over a period of close to 20 years. He followed Billups to Portland from the LA Clippers coaching staff, where he and Billups both worked as assistants. Rogers’ primary responsibility in Portland was overseeing the defense.
Fleming was hired by the Blazers in June 2024. He had previously been a head coach in Germany and an assistant coach for the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, and Denver Nuggets before joining the Blazers staff. Fentress has previously reported on Fleming’s significant role working with Portland guard Scoot Henderson’s development. Fleming also worked on the overall offense.
Gomes served as a player development coach with the Blazers for two seasons. His job with Portland was his first coaching job in the NBA.
Replacements have not yet been named.
