The Australian Boomerangs have cemented their place as a global force in inclusive sport, claiming gold in the men’s 5×5 basketball competition at the 2025 Virtus World Championships in Portugal.

Capping off an undefeated run, the Boomerangs delivered a commanding 114–85 victory over Portugal in the gold medal match to secure the championship title.

Their finals performance followed an emphatic 109–37 win over Spain in the semi-final, reinforcing the Boomerangs’ status as the team to beat.

The 5×5 gold comes just days after the Boomerangs ‘Green’ team also won the 3×3 world title, marking a clean sweep for the Australian men’s team and one of the most successful campaigns in their history.

Three Boomerangs were recognised in the tournament’s All Star 5 for their outstanding performances across the week, with Jack Innella, Dylan Cheyne, and Jake De La Motte all earning selection.

Innella, who had earlier been named MVP of the 3×3 tournament, continued his standout form in the 5×5 competition.
