The Kentucky Wildcats have added Gabriel McKay as a graduate assistant for the 2024–25 season, according to his Instagram. He becomes the third graduate assistant on Mark Pope’s staff, joining Jaylan Green and Willis Mackey Jr.

McKay arrives in Lexington after spending the 2024–25 season as a player with Liberty, where he appeared in 32 games and averaged 7.8 minutes, 0.9 points, 0.9 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game. McKay made the most of his time on the floor, contributing on both ends and providing leadership off the bench.

Before that, McKay played the 2023–24 season, during which he averaged 2.1 points and 0.5 rebounds per game while shooting 33.3% from three. He scored a career-high 10 points twice and had notable performances against Mississippi Valley State, Mid-Atlantic Christian, and Florida Atlantic.

In the 2022–23 season, McKay appeared in 22 games, adding valuable depth while earning honors for his academic achievements. He redshirted during the 2021–22 campaign and began his college career at Trevecca Nazarene, where he played in 45 games over two seasons.

A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, McKay was a standout at Liberty Christian Academy, serving as a three-year captain and four-year varsity player. His family is deeply rooted in the game and his father Ritchie McKay is the head coach at Liberty University, and his brother Luke is the Flames’ video coordinator.

McKay brings strong basketball IQ, leadership, and a winning mindset to the Kentucky bench in his transition from a player to a grad assistant.
