Swerve Strickland has earned his spot at the top in AEW.

Since joining All Elite Wrestling, Swerve Strickland has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, and that has been the case for the batch of wrestlers who have tried to take the former AEW World Champion off his A-game, but instead, they have faced the consequences of messing with one of the top guys in AEW.

When asked about joining AEW on the Battleground Podcast, Strickland compared it to joining the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the greatest basketball franchises of all time, and a team that has retired the jerseys of the greatest names and faces in the history of the NBA.

“You can’t just be here in All Elite Wrestling just to be here. People second-guess can they just sign a contract and make an impact in AEW. It shouldn’t be like that. It should be like signing with The Lakers. You can’t just get to the Lakers and just expect to be starting 5 and run the floor and get playing time. No, you have to work, you have to be one of the best out there. Then you gotta wonder can you come to the Lakers, and then… you gotta work that much harder to stay on the team. That’s what we wanna always keep that standard in All Elite Wrestling.”

Strickland isn’t wrong. Kobe Bryant had to come off the bench before he finally found his groove and went on to win five championships for the Lakers organization.

Now, it’s up to the AEW roster to follow in the footsteps of guys like Jon Moxley, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, the Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and others to prove that this is the standard they want to see in AEW.
