The Denver Nuggets and the rest of the Western Conference saw aging star Kevin Durant get shipped to the Houston Rockets on Sunday.

The Phoenix Suns moved Durant for a package that included Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year’s draft and five second-round picks, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.

But there was a note a little ways down in Charania’s article that will catch the attention of Nuggets fans.

“The Suns engaged in serious talks to move Durant this week, primarily focused on the Heat, Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves, sources said. Several other wild-card suitors emerged as well — including the Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers, LA Clippers and Denver Nuggets, sources said,” Charania writes.

That’s interesting that the Nuggets were working the phones with the Suns, even though they still haven’t named a new GM. Josh Kroenke could’ve be involved in those talks, as well as interim GM Ben Tenzer, who may land the full-time job.

Obviously, with Durant set to make $54.7 million this year, Denver would’ve had to move some big time contracts to secure him. That would mean likely Michael Porter Jr., who’s due $38.3 million this year and some combination of Christian Braun, Peyton Watson and probably a Zeke Nnaji or Dario Saric.

Jamal Murray could’ve maybe been a name floated, but it’s hard to see the Nuggets trading him. Obviously, Nikola Jokic is untouchable. And considering the Suns got so many picks from the Rockets, that would’ve been another obstacle. Previous GM Calvin Booth was good at giving those away, and Denver has very few draft picks left.

While Charania doesn’t offer any additional details, the fact the Nuggets are mentioned in the Durant sweepstakes is interesting. However, the deal is done now, and he won’t be coming to Denver.
