Durham, N.C.. – The Niagara men’s basketball team will travel to Durham, N.C., and Cameron Indoor Stadium for the brotherhood run multi-team event (MTE) hosted by Duke University Nov. 21-22.

Niagara will take on head coach Greg Paulus‘ alma mater Duke on Nov. 21 before facing Howard Nov. 22. With all three head coaches being former Duke players themselves with Paulus and Jon Scheyer being teammates for three seasons, while Howard head coach Kenneth Blanekeny was a four-year letterwinner at Duke (1991-95).

“There is nothing like playing for Duke University and being a part of the Brotherhood. Grateful to Jon for the opportunity to be a part of the Brotherhood Run. Our program wants to play against NCAA Tournament teams and the top teams in the country. Howard is a NCAA Tournament program and Duke is the best program in college basketball. This experience for our university, program and team will be special. Duke is home and the experiences and people shaped me as a person, leader and competitor.”

This will be the first time the Purple Eagles take on the Blue Devils in team history, while Niagara will face the Bison for the second time in team history and first time since 2009-10.

Paulus returns to Duke after a four-year playing career (2005-09) including three seasons as a teammate of Duke head coach Jon Scheyer. During his tenure at Duke, Paulus was a three-year starter and two-time captain, helping the Blue Devils to three ACC Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances with a 112-28 record. He also sits top-10 all-time at Duke in assists with 468, while leading the team in three consecutive seasons (2006-08). He also sits top-10 in three-point field goals with 210 and three-point percentage with .398.

Heading into his seventh season as Niagara’s head coach, Paulus has led Niagara to 78 wins, including two 16-win campaigns. He was the first Purple Eagles coach since 2009 to earn back-to-back first-round byes in the MAAC Championship, leading the team to the program’s first MAAC semifinal appearance in eight years in 2021 and another in 2023.
