A key piece of the Mavericks’ frontcourt won’t be leaving Dallas anytime soon.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, center Daniel Gafford is expected to sign a three-year contract extension with the Mavericks. The new deal is reportedly worth nearly $60 million.

Gafford has been a pivotal part of the Mavs’ on-court approach since landing in Dallas during the 2023-24 season. The Mavericks originally acquired Gafford ahead of the 2024 trade deadline, bolstering their center position.

Gafford appeared in 57 games last season as the Mavericks battled an array of injuries. He averaged a career-high 12.3 points, along with 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks.

The center sustained an injury of his own, going down with a right knee sprain in February. He returned to the court about a month later.

Dallas can now look forward to a frontcourt that features players like Gafford, Dereck Lively II and Anthony Davis for the foreseeable future.
