With the NBA draft right around the corner, now is the time to look at some past drafts and see what the Philadelphia 76ers have done in their history. The Sixers have selected some big-time players in the past who have become an important part of the fabric of the franchise’s history.

This edition focuses on the 2024 NBA draft as the Sixers held the No. 16 pick following a Round 1 elimination by the New York Knicks. There was a lot of debate about what the Sixers should do with the pick, but the front office chose Duke guard Jared McCain to add to the roster.

To begin his rookie season in 2024-25, McCain was phenomenal. He averaged 15.3 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 46% from the floor and 38.3% from deep in 23 games. He scored He scored 30-plus points twice and showed off an ability to run the offense or play off the ball.

McCain, unfortunately, suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and had to undergo surgery as his rookie season was cut short. The Sixers now expect him to return fully healthy for the 2025-26 season to help Philadelphia bounce back.
