The Golden State Warriors are reportedly considering a significant offseason move that could see them part ways with sharpshooter Buddy Hield. According to Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz, the Warriors are predicted to engage in a trade with the Toronto Raptors, sending Hield and Moses Moody to Toronto in exchange for Jakob Poeltl. This proposed deal aims to address key weaknesses for both teams as they prepare for the 2024-25 NBA season.
The Golden State Warriors, despite having a strong core, have struggled with their lack of size in the frontcourt. Jakob Poeltl, a seven-footer, would provide the team with much-needed rim protection and rebounding. On the other hand, the Raptors, who are in the midst of a rebuild, are in desperate need of shooting. Hield, one of the league’s most reliable three-point specialists, could fill that void. Hield’s credentials as a shooter are undeniable. He ranks in the top 20 of the all-time leaders in three-pointers made and has consistently delivered for every team he’s played for, including the Indiana Pacers and Philadelphia 76ers. This season, he’s averaging 11.5 points and 3.2 rebounds while shooting 36.7% from beyond the arc. His ability to stretch the floor would be a valuable asset for the Raptors, who are looking to add veteran leadership to their young squad.
Swartz’s proposal highlights the mutual benefits of this trade. “The Golden State Warriors have their core in place, but they lack legitimate size, and the Raptors’ seven-footer will instantly fill that void,” he noted. Meanwhile, Toronto’s need for shooting is evident, and Hield’s presence would address that issue. Moody’s inclusion in the deal adds another layer of potential for the Raptors, as the 21-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance in his limited playing time.
