Suns coach breaks down what he gained from each coach he’s worked for

New Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott has been an assistant coach for the Cavaliers, Nets and Lakers, and has learned from the coaches he worked for.

The Phoenix Suns have reportedly traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, and Fox Sports personality Emmanuel Acho has it crushing Durant’s legacy.

“How many chips (championships) did you win, and how many teams did you have to play for to do it. That is your legacy,” Acho said on The Facility on Monday, June 23.

Acho explained why, before coming to that conclusion. He explained his formula for what an NBA player’s legacy is. It is the number of championships won by the player divided by the number of teams the player played for.

For instance, he mentioned that Basketball Hall of Famers Kobe Bryant and Tim Duncan have legacy “scores” of 5, as they won five championships and played for one team. He then notes that Durant has an 0.4 legacy score, as he has won two championships and played for five teams (when the reported trade becomes official).

“I’m not faulting him for going (to different teams) to get (a championship),” Acho explained. “I’m faulting him because he can’t bring it to him. That’s why he’s going to go get it. You’re only going to go get it because it won’t come to you.”

LEGACY FORMULA:

Championships won ÷ Teams played for = Player Legacy

Rings Teams Score

Steph: 4 1 4.0

Bron: 4 3 1.3

KD: 2 5* 0.4

Durant’s championships were won with the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors came off a 3-1 blown series lead in the 2016 NBA Finals, and signed Durant in the following offseason. Durant played there for three years and won championships in the first two years.

Durant was the only player on the Warriors in those three years to win an NBA Finals MVP award (Durant won two), and he was the only player on the Warriors in those three years to finish Second-Team All-NBA or better in every season. He does not view Acho’s formula as credible.

According to The Great Kevin Durant’s legacy formula that was created in the best labs at MIT, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time. You sure you wanna listen to this guy about greatness?

“According to The Great Kevin Durant’s legacy formula that was created in the best labs at MIT, Emmanuel is the worst linebacker of all time,” Durant replied back on X (formerly Twitter). “You sure you wanna listen to this guy about greatness?”

Acho was a linebacker in the National Football League for four seasons. Acho never appeared in a playoff game, and his teams in the NFL appeared in one and did not win it. Playing 20 career games (two starts), he collected 33 tackles (two for loss).

In 17 NBA seasons, Durant won the NBA MVP in the 2013-14 season and has made 11 All-NBA teams (six first-team selections).

Acho did say that Durant’s reply made him laugh; however it is not clear if he means he is laughing at or with Durant:

Durant was reportedly traded on Sunday, June 22, from the Suns to the Rockets for combo guard Jalen Green, wing Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 overall 2025 NBA Draft selection and five second-round NBA draft selections.
