PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Phoenix Suns are using the 2025 NBA Draft to add some size to the team.
Using the Houston Rockets’ 10th overall pick, the Suns will add Khaman Maluach, a center from Duke.
According to reports from ESPN, the Suns traded their No. 29 pick and a 2029 first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for center Mark Williams.
Maluach averaged 8.6 points and 6.6 rebounds during his freshman and only year at Duke. He also shot 71.2% from the field, including 25% from 3. The 7′2″ big man was born in South Sedan and started playing basketball at age 13
The No. 10 pick is part of a proposed blockbuster trade deal with Kevin Durant going to Houston and Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and six future picks, including that pick, to Phoenix. Because of Green’s contract, the deal can’t be official until July 6.
So that means it’s still technically Houston’s pick but it was the Suns pulling the strings.
As for Williams, who also went to Duke, he was drafted by the Hornets in the 2022 NBA draft with the No. 5 overall pick.
Last February, the Los Angeles Lakers tried to trade for him for Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish but the trade was rescinded two days later, reportedly because of a failed physical.
With the Durant trade, the Suns lost size and added more shooting guards. As currently constructed, Phoenix has Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, Green and Grayson Allen fighting for minutes at the 2 position.
