Former Quaker Valley basketball star selected by Brooklyn Nets; reportedly headed to Los Angeles Lakers in a trade

Adou Thiero, a former Quaker Valley High School basketball star, is officially headed to the NBA.The Brooklyn Nets selected Thiero, a 6-foot-6, 218-pound forward, in the second round of the NBA Draft on Thursday night.ESPN reported that Thiero, the 36th overall pick, is being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.Thiero is the first WPIAL player drafted since Cam Johnson, who graduated from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Moon Township. Johnson was a first-round pick in the 2019 draft.The 21-year-old Thiero averaged 15.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior at Arkansas, after transferring from Kentucky to follow head coach John Calipari.Thiero’s father, Almamy, played three seasons for Calipari at Memphis before finishing his college career at Duquesne University. His mother, Mariam, was a 2006 draft pick by the WNBA’s Washington Mystics.
