What’s different about the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation this offseason? Jim Owczarski discusses next moves for the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Milwaukee Bucks picked international big man Bogoljub Markovic 47th in the 2025 NBA draft on June 26.
The 6-foot-11 hooper played in Serbia for Mega Basket, the same team that once helped develop future three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic.
Markovic impressed many scouts last season, playing 30 games for his team while averaging 13.7 points and 6.8 rebounds in over 29 minutes per game. He also showcased his ability to stretch the floor, shooting 37% from three-point range and an efficient 53.8% from the field overall.
ESPN draft analyst Jonathan Givony assessed Markovic as a prospect.
“At his best, his ability to space the floor, push off the defensive glass and finish skillfully in the paint is intriguing, but he’ll need to make progress with his physicality, feel for the game and toughness to make use of those tools at the highest levels,” Givony wrote.
Here’s how social media reacted to the Bucks’ draft pick.
What % chance do you give Bogoljub Markovic of ever stepping foot onto an NBA court for the Bucks

47. Milwaukee Bucks – Bogoljub Markovic
Grade: A+
My favorite pick over this stretch of the draft
Markovic might not be in the NBA this coming season, but his skillset is exactly what the NBA loves to see from players with his size
Great playmaking feel and touch packed into… pic.twitter.com/8eMzppfURV

The Bucks drafting a +Bogoljub Marković fits in pretty well into the old-template surrounding a Giannis Antetokounmpo at the Frontcourt’s.
I can understand the value in the talent-investment and shaping-up of the roster to emphasize another +“Point Giannis”-centric roster. https://t.co/KeYGiMPtr6

47. Milwaukee Bucks: Bogoljub Markovic
Grade: C
One of the only players I haven’t watched, he has some intrigue with his frame and offensive skills but I don’t ever see the defense developing to an above average level

I’d anticipate if at all the trade-exception being used the Bucks will divert from a Santi Aldama (if available?) as they’ve just put their eggs into the draft-investment of Bogoljub Marković.
I like the archetype-talent no doubt, we’ll see what this ends up being soon enough!

Remember the name Bogoljub Markovic he is going to be the MVP one day

Bogoljub Markovic is the Sandro Mamukelashvili of Hugo Bessons

@beatingthebook As a Milwaukee bucks fan I was very excited waiting for the teams one and only 47th overall selection and they draft Bogoljub Markovic, he will inevitably be called BOGO by the media but remember we only got one pick no BOGO

Bogoljub Markovic stats last season (playing in Jokic’s old team) :
13.7 PPG
6.8 RPG
2.7 APG
53.8% FG
37.0% 3PT
76.0% FT

Listen, I don’t like making grand pronouncements on draft night, but if things shake out the right way, I can see Bogoljub Markovic becoming one of best guys named Bogoljub to ever play in the NBA. pic.twitter.com/oLqWplaEST

I’m bought into the idea of Bogoljub Marković: 7ft Unicorn, Frontcourt-Wing.
This is the archetype-talent of the Santi Aldama’s & Chet Holmgren’s of the world on the offensive-end.
It also fits the “2016-Big’s”-blueprint.
I’ll play the draft-n-stash game for high-potential 🔐. https://t.co/4AEVDQBe7U

Bogoljub would have been my pick for the Wizards at #43. Markovic has legit offensive upside but will need to develop more on the defensive end. https://t.co/ZyDFqjjtQZ

I like this Bucks pick a lot. Bogoljub Markovic was 19th on my board and he’s a big man like we need. More thoughts will be coming soon.

Shams: Giannis is closely monitoring the Bucks’ draft choice tonight to assess if he has a better chance to win there or elsewhere.
Bucks: Select Bogoljub Markovic from Serbia.
Camera: Pans to tall child with braces.
Givony: Bucks will be stashing him for a year in Serbia.
