Dylan Harper, son of former Miami University great Ron Harper, was selected second overall in the 2025 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs.

Dylan starred as a freshman for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, averaging 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in 29 games. He entered the draft after his only season at Rutgers. He played at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, New Jersey.

Ron Harper, a Dayton native who turned 60 in January, played in the NBA from 1986 to 2001. The 8th overall pick in the 1986 NBA draft out of MU, Harper won five NBA titles (three with the Bulls, and two with the Los Angeles Lakers) toward the end of his career.

Earlier in his career, Ron averaged 19.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.3 assists per game in four seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and 19.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game in five seasons for the Los Angeles Clippers.

Ron Harper remains MU’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. He was the first player in school history to have his basketball jersey (No. 34) retired, and he was inducted into the MAC Hall of Fame in June 2023.

Dylan’s brother, Ron Harper Jr., made a half-court buzzer-beater to lift Rutgers to an upset of then-No. 1 Purdue in December 2021. He was waived by the Raptors after reportedly suffering a season-ending subluxation of the left shoulder during a December game for the G League’s Raptors 905.

Harper Jr. played four seasons for the Scarlet Knights, and averaged 15.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a senior.
