MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Memphis Grizzlies, after an abrupt end to the season last week, have named their head coach for next season.
Tuomas Iisalo was announced as the interim head coach for Memphis after the firing of Taylor Jenkins on March 28.
Iisalo had been with the organization since July 7, 2024, when he was hired as the lead assistant coach.
Iisalo was 4-5 in 9 games as head coach for Memphis to end the season.
Grizzlies’ General Manager of Basketball Operations Zachary Kleiman spoke on the decision:
“I have full confidence in Tuomas serving as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies going forward. Tuomas’ teams at every level have been disciplined, tenacious, and connected on both ends of the floor, consistently exceeding expectations. We look forward to the same in Memphis.”
As the first Finnish-born coach in NBA history, he will look forward to revamping the team this offseason and making a run next season.
The Grizzlies’ postseason ended last Saturday after a sweep in the first round vs the Oklahoma City Thunder.
