The newest Knick understands where his bread is buttered.

“I just love defense,” Mohamed Diawara, who was drafted by the Knicks on Thursday, said in a recent interview with Off The Grid Fitness. “That’s not the job that everybody wanna do. But I feel like it can really, really bring you some money if you could do it good.

“So you got to be a great defender and I feel like what’s motivating me is I just want to play at the highest level. And I know for me to play at the highest level, I have to be a great defender. That’s what motivates me.”

The defensive element — along with Diawara’s athleticism and the potential to stash him overseas if necessary — carried the Knicks’ decision to make an upside gamble on the 20-year-old Frenchman.
