Less than a week after losing in the 2025 NBA Finals, the Indiana Pacers made a pretty shocking selection in the 2025 NBA Draft’s second round.

Out of nowhere, the Pacers selected Liberty guard Taelon Peter with the 54th overall pick of Thursday night’s second round in Brooklyn.

Indiana’s pick raised a lot of eyebrows, as he wasn’t expected to hear his name called during the second round. The Pacers likely valued his shooting, as he shot 45.3-percent from the 3-point range last season.

Peter wasn’t invited to the annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament or the 2025 NBA combine, making his selection all the more surprising. He worked out for Indiana in the pre-draft process.

I saw Taelon Peter’s stat-line when looking at prospects who were playing in the NCAA Tournament. He had a ridiculous shooting season:

58% from the floor and 45% from three, which is absurd for a 6-foot-4 guard.

Didn’t have him on my board, but a big get on shooting upside.

While Pacers fans might not know who Peter is, they’ll eventually see him out on the basketball court in Indianapolis.
