The rumors you have been hearing about the Boston Celtics potentially flipping former Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons for further cap savings are getting support from other, reliable corners of NBA reporting in the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer — with a new wrinkle. Backup Boston forward Sam Hauser — a popular candidate for analysts trying to project what moves the Celtics might make to clear salary given his contract can be dealt into opposing ball clubs who have the full midlevel exception — has not been a hot commodity in sourced trade chatter, per Fischer.

“I haven’t heard any credible buzz about Sam Hauser’s inclusion in serious trade conversations,” writes the Stein Line reporter. “The interest would surely be there given Hauser’s perimeter prowess and the value contract he holds over the next four years, but the Celtics have largely achieved their financial goals by moving Holiday and Porzingis.” Noting that this now puts Boston in a position where they no longer need to move off Hauser’s contract as a result of those pre-draft trades, Fischer points to the import of Hauser to any Boston postseason hopes.

One player getting a lot of buzz this summer as a potential option for the Celtics to move has been point guard Derrick White, who Boston Vice President of Basketball Operations Mike Zarren shot down the possibility of in a recent interview.

Fischer, for his part, revealed that the cost to even consider such talks set by Boston has largely been a reason why there have been no serious talks to such an end. “Boston told at least one rival team that it would have insisted on a “Mikal Bridges-type” package to part with Derrick White,” writes the Stein Line reporter.

Evidently, Fischer has heard that there have been no real efforts to pry White or star forward Jaylen Brown away from the Celtics given the level of offers they have received.
